ANTIQUE IVORY BEAD NECKLACE CIRCA 1910s INDIAN INFLUENCE

This precious necklace is a reminder of an era gone by and hopefully will never come again.

Ivory was a treasured jewel in the Victorian era. They loved to keep specimens and memorabilia nature. Rightly or wrongly, they enjoyed the idea of taxidermy as a way of preserving creatures. It wasn’t really until the mid century, that people began to understand the damage done by killing majestic creatures for decoration and we moved to stop it. I think that the antique pieces that remain today, should really be treasured because an animal was sacrificed, and unfortunately this act cannot be undone.

So, here we are presenting you with an exceptional, genuine ivory necklace dating to around the 1920s. It features a striking combination of elongated beads and round beads with a distinctive triangular-shaped ivory pendant. The necklace retains its original ivory screw clasp and measures approximately 53 cm in length. Of likely Indian or Asian origin, this piece showcases excellent antique quality and condition, with a smooth, warm patina that highlights the natural grain of the ivory. A unique and elegant example of early 20th century craftsmanship.

Whatever you feel about ivory, I would hate to think that this piece would be destroyed due to an act that was committed so long ago and I hope it goes to a loving home.
