DAINTY ANTIQUE IVORY BEAD NECKLACE CIRCA 1910s WITH SHELL MOTIFS

DAINTY ANTIQUE IVORY BEAD NECKLACE CIRCA 1910s WITH SHELL MOTIFS
This precious necklace is a reminder of an era gone by and hopefully never to be repeated.
Ivory was a treasured jewel in the Victorian era. They loved to keep specimens and memorabilia nature. Rightly or wrongly, they enjoyed the idea of taxidermy as a way of preserving creatures. It wasn’t really until the mid century, that people began to understand the damage done by killing majestic creatures for decoration and we moved to stop it. I think that the antique pieces that remain today, should really be treasured because an animal was sacrificed, and unfortunately this act cannot be undone.
So, here we are presenting you with this dainty, genuine ivory necklace dating to around the 1940s. It features a delicate shell-shaped ivory fringe accented by a combination of elongated and round beads. The necklace retains its original ivory screw clasp and it is choker length, measuring approximately 40 cm in length.
Beautifully crafted and well balanced, it displays a smooth texture and natural creamy patina typical of quality antique ivory.
Whatever you feel about ivory, I would hate to think that this piece would be destroyed due to an act that was committed so long ago and I hope it goes to a loving home.
