VINTAGE CUFFLINKS OF FUKUROKUJU THE JAPANESE GOD OF WISDOM

VINTAGE CUFFLINKS OF FUKUROKUJU THE JAPANESE GOD OF WISDOM

A$150.00

An unusual and highly decorative pair of vintage cufflinks featuring a finely detailed portrayal of Fukurokuju, set against a rich black background with gilt highlights.

Measuring an impressive 3cm in diameter, these cufflinks make a distinctive statement while showcasing exceptional attention to detail. The combination of vibrant colours, raised relief decoration, and traditional symbolism gives them the appearance of miniature works of art rather than simple accessories.

Adding further interest, the cufflinks are stamped PAT I.144883 (sometimes seen as PAT L144883), a patent mark associated with a fastening design widely used by the renowned British jewellery and accessories manufacturer Stratton. Dating from the 1950s through to the 1970s, this patent refers to a robust and practical toggle-style fastening that became a hallmark of many quality British-made cufflinks of the period. It is thought that the ceramic tile is a Toshikane creation that has been reset in the UK cufflink mount.
