ANTIQUE VICTORIAN MICRO MOSAIC EARRINGS 15CT YELLOW GOLD c1880s

ANTIQUE VICTORIAN MICRO MOSAIC EARRINGS 15CT YELLOW GOLD c1880s

A$1,800.00

We are thrilled to finally offer you some high quality, Micro Mosaic pieces!

These stunning earring feature scenes of Roman ruins created by micro pieces of coloured glass inlayed into black glass. One earring pictures the Roman Forum and the other pictures St Peter’s Basilica. Wow, how amazing that you can adorn your ears with such antiquity (c1880s)!

The settings test 15ct Rose Gold but are not stamped. These earrings are quite large, they measure approximately 3cms long x 2.2cms wide and together they weigh approximately 14grams. There is very little damage to the pieces. Both have minor chips/nibbles to the edge of the black glass, which is to be expected for jewellery of this age. The Basilica earring has a few more chips than the other (please refer to the photos), but you really can’t notice any damage unless inspecting them closely.

These earrings are typical of the micro mosaics made in Rome in the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. They were intended for visitors to Italy who wished to bring home a souvenir of their visit to the country whose ancient civilization continued to inspire the rest of Europe and America.

We also have a micro mosaic brooch in store as well. Please note that these are being sold separately.

We offer free express post within Australia and a 7 day money back guarantee.
